On the 1st of this month, Leon, my roommate Melissa, and I set off on a 10 day road-trip through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Melissa and I had been talking about doing a road trip for while, and thought this would be the perfect time as it'd be something to look forward to after SXSW was over. Pretty much everything about the experience and the places we visited was amazing/better than I expected. We all had a few fears going in, like a tire exploding, one of us driving off a cliff, being attacked by a mountain lion, a real-life 'Hills Have Eyes' scenario, getting arrested by border patrol for being 'too nice' or something, etc etc. Fortunately, for the most part, things went off without a hitch. I say 'for the most part' because we did get stuck in a sand ditch at one point (may or may not have slowly driven into to while trying to take a picture in a totally non-offroad corolla). But that actually turned out to be kind of fun, as an older couple from Alaska (who'd been roadtripping since August) came and rescued us from the pit, then gave us some useful advice on things like why it's not a good idea to drive a car into a fucking sand ditch.
So yes, our trip started in Marfa, then we went up through New Mexico and down through Arizona. We stopped/stayed in places such as El Cosmico, White Sands, a Wigwam Village on Route 66, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Arcosanti, Flinstones Bedrock City (!!!), as well as shooting two shows in Phoenix (Black Lips and...Phoenix!). I had a few cameras in tow and have posted my photo diary of what we got up to below. Hope you enjoy looking through! And the four photos of me in the gallery were snapped by Leon on my cam (thanks hombre!).
